What should I expect in my first few sessions?
In your first session, it’s completely normal to feel like you’re simply getting a lot off your chest. During this time, we’ll discuss important details such as your family history, significant life events, and your goals for therapy. We’ll also talk about how often you’d like to meet moving forward. After our initial session, we’ll enter the "assessment phase," where we’ll work collaboratively to identify specific treatment goals tailored to your needs. This process is all about laying a solid foundation for the work ahead. Therapy sessions are 53 minutes in length.
How long will I be in therapy?
Each person's path in therapy is individual, and the time it takes to achieve your goals can vary. This depends on factors such as your personal growth aspirations, the level of commitment you're ready to invest, and the reasons that brought you to therapy. Your involvement and dedication are key to your success, and I am here to support you throughout the process. Together, we will move at a pace that feels comfortable and sustainable for you, always keeping your goals and well-being at the forefront of our work.
How do I know if you will be a good fit for me?
Research shows that the most important factor in achieving positive therapy outcomes is the comfort and trust a client feels with their therapist.
To help ensure we’re a good fit, I offer a free 30-minute initial consultation for those interested in working together. During this meeting, you'll have the opportunity to share what brings you to therapy and what you're looking for in a therapist, while I’ll explain how my practice works and how I approach therapy. This conversation allows both of us to assess whether we feel aligned in a way that will best support your goals.
It's essential that you feel confident in the effectiveness of your therapy and comfortable with your therapist. If, at any point, you have concerns about our fit, I encourage you to talk to me about it. We can discuss how to move forward, whether that means adjusting the approach or exploring other resources to find a better match for you.
As you begin your search for a therapist, I recommend interviewing at least three providers. This will give you a clearer sense of what each one offers and help you find someone you truly feel comfortable with—comfort is key to a successful therapeutic relationship.
Do you provide in-person sessions?
At this time, my therapy practice is fully virtual. All sessions are conducted through a secure, HIPAA-compliant telehealth video platform, ensuring your privacy and confidentiality throughout our work together.
Is virtual therapy right for me?
Virtual therapy can be an effective and convenient way to access mental health care, offering flexibility and ease for many clients. However, it may not be the best fit for everyone. Virtual sessions tend to work best for individuals who can create a private, quiet space for therapy and are comfortable using technology. Additionally, virtual therapy is often most suitable for those managing mild-to-moderate symptoms, such as stress, anxiety, or depression, and may be less appropriate for individuals experiencing more acute issues, such as active psychosis, suicidal thoughts, or severe substance use concerns.
How much does therapy cost?
My private pay rates are $200 for the initial intake session and $175 for subsequent sessions. If you choose to use your insurance, the rates will depend on the specifics of your plan, including your deductible, copay, and co-insurance amounts.
I also offer a limited number of reduced-fee spots based on household income. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any concerns about affordability — I am here to help and want to ensure therapy is accessible to you.
If you are paying privately for therapy, you have the right to a Good Faith Estimate for counseling services. You may ask your counselor for this at any time and can see more information about the Good Faith Estimate here.
Does Resilience Counseling Co. take insurance?
Resilience Counseling Co. is an in-network provider with BCBS, Aetna, McLaren, Meridian, and Medicaid plans.
If I am not an in-network provider for your insurance plan, you may still be able to utilize your out-of-network benefits for reimbursement. Many insurance plans reimburse 50-100% of session fees when using an out-of-network provider.
I recommend contacting your insurance company directly to determine what your insurance may cover. The customer service number can typically be found on the back of your insurance card. When calling, ask to speak with the department that handles "behavioral health" or "mental health" services, and consider asking the following questions:
What are my out-of-network mental health benefits? How much will be reimbursed per session?
Is there a deductible I must meet before my insurance begins reimbursing? Have I met any of this deductible?
Are there any limitations on mental health services, such as session caps or restrictions on covered diagnoses?
Do I need a referral from my primary care provider or another healthcare professional to be reimbursed?
How long will it take to receive reimbursement once I submit my receipt?
Where should I send or email my receipt for reimbursement?
Some clients prefer to pay privately for therapy rather than using insurance, often due to privacy concerns or the potential sharing of health information with insurance companies. Additionally, you may be able to use a flexible spending account (FSA) or health savings account (HSA) to cover therapy costs.
If you have any questions or need assistance with insurance or payment options, please don’t hesitate to reach out. I am here to help you navigate the process.
How does billing work?
To help streamline the payment process, I require a card to be kept on file for all clients. If you're using insurance, my biller will submit a claim to your provider after your session. Once the claim is processed, your card on file will be charged for any remaining balance. If you're not using insurance, your card will be charged directly following your session.
If you need to discuss a payment plan, please don’t hesitate to reach out — I want to make sure that mental health services are never a financial burden for you.
Additionally, you’ll have access to our secure online billing platform, where you can easily pay your copay and access receipts at any time. If you have any questions or concerns about billing, feel free to contact me — I am here to help!
What is Resilience Counseling Co.'s Cancellation Policy?
We kindly ask for a 48-hour notice if you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment. Please note that a $100 late cancel/no-show fee will apply for appointments that are not canceled or rescheduled within this timeframe, except in sudden illness or emergencies. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation.
